FAQs, Ts and Cs & Hypnobirthing Myths

What is Hypnobirthing?

Honestly, it depends who you talk to. I am going to tell you what I mean when I use the word Hypnobirthing. The Hypno element is about using self-hypnosis techniques during pregnancy to help you on a conscious and subconscious level to release fear, build confidence and learn how to relax. The birthing element is the antenatal education bit – physiology of birth, pain relief options, where to have your baby etc. You can read more here.

Can you guarantee a pain free birth?

Nope, I can’t even guarantee you a positive birth. There are no guarantees. No one knows what’s going to happen on the day – by doing my course, you’re definitely increasing your chances of having the birth that you want / a positive birth.

What areas do you cover for Private courses?

Anywhere in Surrey or Kent, within a 30 minute drive from Coulsdon.

If you aren’t local but would like to do the course with me, I’m very happy to do the private course remotely, using video calling.

Are your courses just for first time parents?

Definitely not – the majority of the couples I work with already have children. The majority of these parents didn’t have a particularly positive experience first time around and want to change that this time. They want to feel  more in control, informed and confident. Click here for their feedback.

When is the best time to start the course?

Most couples join my courses from around 20 weeks – some have started at 13 weeks, some have waited until they’re on maternity leave at around 36 weeks. It’s entirely up to you, although if you’re feeling scared or apprehensive about birth, doing a course sooner rather than later is definitely going to help so that you can minimise the fear and enjoy your pregnancy.

Is there an online course option?

Yes, you can either do the full 8 hour, private course ‘live’ with me on a video call and it’ll be exactly the same as the private in person course, same level of interaction, support and great content. Or you can sign up to the Calm Birth School online course if you’re short on time or want to do the course in your own time, by clicking here.

Can I pay for the course in instalments?

Definitely – I want to make my courses accessible to all. As long as the full balance is paid five days before your course starts, we can definitely work something out.

Do I have to do the course with my birth partner?

No, although I would really recommend doing it with a birth partner if you can. It means that your birth partner is learning everything that you are, so that you can practise together, make decisions together and on the day not only will they know exactly how to support you, you can leave everything in their very capable hands. You can just focus on you, knowing that your birth partner has 100% got everything else covered.

Can I just read a book / download Hypnobirthing MP3s?

Yes you absolutely can! I recommend The Calm Birth Method book by Suzy Ashworth, the MP3s from the Calm Birth School website and The Positive Birth Book by Milli Hill.

You won’t get the on-going support from an experienced birth preparation teacher though, the opportunity to ask questions or the fruitful discussions where things are bound to come up that aren’t in the book. Practising is also essential – if you’re investing in a course you’re probably more likely to make the time to practice. Courses are also a great way to get your birth partner involved in the prep too and of course practice the techniques together. These are just a few reasons, there are loads more.

What happens if my baby arrives before I finish the course?

If your baby arrives before you finish the course, you’ll get some of your money back. It’ll depend on how far into the course you are as to how much you’ll get back.

Refunds & cancellation policy

You can secure your place on a course, class or workshop by paying a non-refundable deposit or the total cost of the course.

The reason that the deposit is non-refundable is because as soon as you make your booking, I will buy your MP3s, books and other resources so that you have access to them before your course starts.

If you book a course and then are unable to make it, providing you let me know within 4 weeks of your course starting, you will get a full refund, minus the cost of the MP3s, books and resources.

If you book a course and your baby arrives before the course has finished, you receive a refund for the sessions that you weren’t able to attend, minus the cost of the MP3s, books, venue hire if relevant and resources.

If you book a course and after your first session, decide it’s not for you, unfortunately I won’t be able to offer you a refund as it will be too late for me to find someone else to take your place.

If you are unwell and aren’t able to make one of the sessions of the full birth preparation course, I will offer you a place to catch up on the next group course with available space for free.
